TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE SERENGETI AWARDS

  1. That, all contestants, save for those who are exempted from the requirement to hold such a license under these terms and conditions, shall be required to possess a business license issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism or by an institution subordinate to that Ministry.
  2. That, for contestants that are companies, such companies shall be duly registered in Tanzania, and one of their stated business objectives shall relate to conservation and tourism activities.
  3. That, the contestants who satisfies more than one eligibility criterion prepared for these awards, listed in the application system, and communicated to contestants by the Ministry, shall be permitted to apply for and contest in more than one Award.
  4. That, all applications for participation in these awards shall be submitted via the system designated by the Ministry and communicated to participants, no later than 15 November 2025. Applications submitted after this deadline shall be deemed ineligible and shall not be considered.
  5. That, all applications submitted to the Ministry by contestants for their participation in these awards shall be scrutinized by the Special Technical Committee. Furthermore, not more than five contestants, in each category, who meet the criteria mentioned above, shall be shortlisted and publicly announced for voting.
  6. That, the general public shall have the right to vote and determine 100% of the winner of the People’s Choice Awards. For all other awards not specifically mentioned hereinabove, the Jury Committee or Expert panel shall have a 60% voting and decision-making weight in selecting the winner and the general public shall have a 40% voting and decision-making weight in selecting the winner.
  7. That, save as otherwise provided herein, the Jury Committee or Expert panel shall have full authority to make decisions constituting 100% of the final determination for the following awards:
    • Lifetime Achievement in Wildlife Conservation;
    • Lifetime Achievement in Forestry;
    • Lifetime Achievement in Beekeeping Development;
    • Lifetime Achievement in Tourism Development;
    • Best International Airline that Contributes to Tourism Development;
    • Best International Influencer Promoting Destination Tanzania;
    • Development Partners Supporting Conservation;
    • Development Partners Supporting Tourism Development;
    • International Research Expert Supporting Conservation;
    • Best International Tourism Exhibition; and
    • Visionary Leadership.
  8. That, the winners are expected to attend the award ceremony and participate in promotional activities as reasonably required by the Ministry. Noting all expenses incurred to attend the ceremony will be covered by the nominees themselves.
  9. That, the contestant who submits forged documents or false information through the above-mentioned application system, shall be disqualified from participating in these awards and barred from participation for a period of five years.
  10. That, any information submitted through the above-mentioned application system, shall not be used for purposes other than those intended for these Awards.
  11. That, any contestant who submits an application to participate in these awards, whether selected or not, hereby consents to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism using certain information for purposes of promotion or other activities related to these awards, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the awards.
  12. That, all information submitted by a contestant through the above-mentioned application system for the purposes of the awards, shall be protected in accordance with The Personal Data Protection Act [Cap 44 R: E 2023]
  13. That, the Ministry reserve the right to disqualify any contestant who violates the terms and conditions of these awards or any other laws of United Republic of Tanzania.
  14. That, in the event of any dispute arising out of these awards, either party shall do the following:
    • Issue a notice to settle the dispute amicably. The parties hereto shall, within fourteen (14) days from the notice date, use their best efforts to settle the dispute amicably through mutual consultations and negotiation.
    • Any unsolved dispute may be referred within seven (7) days by either party to an adjudicator to be appointed by the tanzania arbitration centre (tac).
    • After the dispute has been referred to the adjudicator, the adjudicator shall give its decision within twenty-one (21) days, or within such other period as may be proposed by the parties. The rendered decision shall be binding to the parties.
    • If either party is dissatisfied with the adjudicator’s decision may, within 14 days refer the dispute for arbitration in accordance with the arbitration act [cap 15 r: e 2023].
    • If no party has referred the matter for arbitration within the above specified period, the decision of the adjudicator shall become final and binding to the parties.
    • That, the ministry declares that, upon submitting an application to participate in these awards through the system stated above, the applicant shall be deemed to have agreed to the terms and conditions of these awards.

  16. That, for purpose of these awards, unless the context required otherwise-
    • “‘Jury Committee or Expert panel” means a group of persons appointed by the Ministry for the purpose of evaluating, judging, and making decisions in relation to the Serengeti Awards.

    • “Special Technical Committee” means a committee appointed by the Ministry, comprising technical experts, professionals, or sector specialists, responsible for assessing applications, verifying eligibility, and shortlisting nominees based on established criteria for the Serengeti Awards
